The GoPro Hero 12 was released on September 13, 2023, and as of May 2026, when I'm reviewing the GoPro Hero 12, the Hero 13 black has been released on September 10, 2024.

It has a 2.27-inch rear touch display and a 1.4-inch front Color Display if the camera is facing your way and it comes with a removable 1720mAh enduro battery.
It weighs around 154g with battery and 121g without battery, because of this I highly recommend it for traveling because it is extremely lightweight as compared to the DSLRs which offer the same features as the GoPro Hero 12.
This means now we don’t have to worry about battery draining during adventures, and we don’t have to carry extra batteries for trips.
Another feature of GoPro Hero 12 is time sync where if you have multiple GoPro cameras, you can sync them with each other for synchronized video recording.
The GoPro Hero 12 comes with Hyper smooth 6.0 which makes the videos recorded in harsh environments like mountains, biking trails and boat rafting extremely smooth.
And finally, GoPro hero 12 now has 1/4-20 tripod screw mounting which now allows people to have wide range tripods like you can put it on your Bicycle, Helmet, Mouth, Chest etc.
GoPro Hero 12 has a wide range of mods and along with-it GoPro has released Max Lens Mod 2.0 which provides a 36% wider field of view in widescreen video and 48% taller field of view in vertical video.
It also has an 8x slow mode along with a portrait feature, where you don’t have to rotate your camera vertically to record videos in portrait. You can just take photos or record videos while keeping the camera horizontal.
Another downside is that it has a slight digital zoom and no optical zoom at all.

The build quality and design of the GoPro Hero 12 are pretty much the same as those of the Hero 11. The GoPro Hero 12 has plastic edges, which help in protecting the camera from damage. After all, it has high risks of damage because, like if you're biking around a mountain or rough area, if the camera drops while you’re at high speed, it can be heavily damaged. That's why they have made the camera durable enough to handle these types of situations.Battery
The most useful upgrade that has been made to GoPro Hero 12 is the increased battery life, which is highly appreciated. Now it can run for 1.5 hours at 5.3K and over 2.5 hours at 1080p.This means now we don’t have to worry about battery draining during adventures, and we don’t have to carry extra batteries for trips.

The GoPro Hero 12 has Bluetooth which allows the user to connect their devices wirelessly to the Hero 12 which was not possible before. However, the GoPro Hero 12 is an overall best but there are some features it’s missing like the built in GPS which was coming with GoPro Hero’s for a long time and it’s not available in the GoPro Hero 12.Another downside is that it has a slight digital zoom and no optical zoom at all.
