Apple’s MacBook Air M5 has been released, and after almost 2 months, here is what I think about it;

Apple MacBook Air M5

The MacBook Air M5 is undoubtedly a fabulous and high-end work machine due to its M5 chip, which can run high-performance tasks like 3D rendering and graphic design pretty smoothly. MacBook Air M5 has improved Wi-Fi 7 connectivity over its predecessor, a 12MP Center Stage webcam, which does not feel like the standard MacBook webcam, and the base memory configuration has also been upgraded to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, which is unnecessary; it closed the window for people to choose low RAM and storage.

How it feels

The MacBook Air M5 design is the same ultra-thin, lightweight aluminum design as its predecessor, offering excellent durability. The aluminum finish feels premium, which keeps the high-quality, durable feel of previous models. It is available in silver, starlight, sky blue, and midnight black.

The thing that I like most about the MacBook Air M5 is that it remains fanless, which ensures silent operation, which is ideal for quiet environments. Not like the MacBook pro who's makes a lot of irritating noise.

The Display is a bright and vibrant Liquid Retina display with 500 nits' brightness and Wide color support. The 15-inch model has 2880-by-1864 native resolution at 224 pixels per inch, while the 13-inch has 2560-by-1664 native resolution at 224 pixels per inch.

The Backlit Magic Keyboard is designed for comfort with a stable, tactile mechanism, which is excellent for long writing sessions and editing sessions.

The force touch trackpad is renowned for responsiveness; it enables precise cursor control and pressure-sensing capabilities; it also supports Multitouch gestures, Force clicks, accelerators, and pressure-sensitive drawing, which will help graphic designers a lot. It also has Touch ID support, which is used for secure, fast login and payment functionality.

Performance People Actually Need

The M5 chip installed allows the MacBook Air M5 to perform tasks like opening multiple tabs (up to 150 tabs) at the same time with extreme smoothness, and writers and photo editors might not see much difference from its predecessor video editors will see a significant upgrade.

And on multiple benchmarks, the MacBook Air M5 chip showed results twice as fast as the M1 in both single-core and multicore tests. But it may be too powerful for some people. Some users have also seen some improvements in Photoshop. And it's slower than the M5 Pro because of the cooling fans.

What about battery Life?

The Battery life has also been upgraded in MacBook Air M5. Apple has claimed that it can last up to 18 hours of video playback and 15 hours of wireless web browsing. In my tests, both the 13-inch and 15-inch models consistently achieve an average of 15.5 hours of continuous real-world use on a single charge.

In light tasks like Writing, Web, and email, the battery can easily last up to 8 hours, often leaving you with 40% battery to spare. In heavy tasks like Multitasking, Coding, or Video Editing, you can expect between 10 and 12 hours of endurance.

And for Intense Workloads like AI generation or Virtual Machines, and under sustained peak loads, the battery drains much faster, lasting roughly 2 to 4 hours. The M5 chip in MacBook Air M5 also decreases the power consumption, which gives you some more room for battery life.

The Biggest Downgrade: Price

The MacBook Air M5 price starts at $1,099 for the 13-inch model, which is a $100 increase from its predecessor, and $1,299 for the 15-inch model, which is a $200 price increase from its predecessor. Now Apple does not have a MacBook Air under the price tag of $1000, which is bad for them.

If you ask me, I will suggest you buy it on sale, like Amazon Prime Day, which will save you $100 or more. The first MacBook Air M1 was first released. It was $999 for the base model, and Apple carried that traditional price tag till MacBook M4.

Conclusion

The MacBook Air M5 is a high-performance premium laptop, which is ok for most professionals. Generally, it is mostly used by office workers because of its lightweight and thin design, and if you want to buy it, you should wait for the Amazon Prime Day, as I have mentioned earlier in this article. MacBook Air M5 is the overall best device for everyone who needs a thin and lightweight laptop that is easy for traveling.
